The struggle and pain of addiction are compounded for people who face social discrimination and barriers to accessing care. LGBT+ individuals suffer from substance use disorder at three times the rate of the general population. Fueling and compounding this trend is the fact that individuals in the LGBT+ community face higher rates of abuse, violence, homelessness, and inadequate healthcare. Rejection by family members, communities, and schools is all too often a part of the LGBT+ experience, and inability to access addiction treatment is an unfortunate reality for many members of the community. At Lighthouse Recovery Institute, we believe that all individuals have the right to access effective care and treatment that considers the diverse experiences found in different populations.
As an LGBT+-friendly facility, we welcome patients regardless of their identity. Our clinical focus on community-building, trauma therapy, family and relationship counseling, and peer support offers a treatment modality that addresses the unique needs of the LGBT+ population. In addition to providing a safe space for therapy and case management to navigate the various social and resource needs of LGBT+ individuals, we offer access to various community LGBT+ support groups. Transportation to LGBT+-focused twelve-step meetings can be facilitated through staff, and we are proud to say that we maintain a community with zero tolerance for discrimination, violence, or bullying. When you come to Lighthouse Recovery Institute, you are safe to be yourself and to celebrate what makes you unique. We are committed to assisting individuals in living fulfilling, joyful lives in which they can be true to themselves in every way.
