Drug and Alcohol Rehab Program
Addiction is a disease that affects the entire family system including parents, siblings, children, spouses, and friends. For these close family members, the impact of substance abuse is tremendous and frequently results in severed relationships.
If your loved one is struggling with alcohol or drugs, it is important to realize that the Lighthouse Recovery Institute is here to offer support and guidance every step of the way. Having a multi-faceted approach to treat substance use disorder including focusing on the family system, is one of the many reasons our facility is helping families heal. Regardless of the level of care or program your loved one is in; medical detox, inpatient drug rehab or intensive outpatient treatment, providing extensive services to the family of the patient is a top priority.
Offering family education during addiction treatment for family members is one of our top priorities. Understanding the fundamentals of addiction and what the underlying problems are, is in our opinion, the only way to get to a solution.
Many families lack the support and guidance they need to foster long-term recovery. We understand that providing an opportunity through the therapeutic process for families to process their loved one’s drug or alcohol addiction that there then becomes a higher likelihood of connection, communication, and repairing of relationships.
The family program at Lighthouse Recovery Institute is tailored to each family’s specific needs, to ensure that everyone in the individual’s life has a chance to receive services they feel they deserve.
Substance abuse has a ripple effect in the lives of those who love the alcoholic or addict. By the time a patient makes it to an addiction treatment center, their family members and loved ones have often suffered immensely.
We emphasize recovery for the whole family, which is why we offer family programming at no additional cost.
Understanding the Family’s Role in Drug and Alcohol Rehab
Active participation in family therapy during addiction treatment reduces the recidivism rate of substance use post-treatment. At Lighthouse Recovery Institute family members and loved ones are offered therapy sessions with patients, as well as access to our family liaison, who assists with managing the full range of emotions that come alongside loving someone in active addiction and early recovery. In addition to support and communication from clinical staff, family members gain insight into developing healthy boundaries, developing practical solutions and support for a solid aftercare plan.
Through this program, as the patient rebuilds, the family starts to mend alongside them.
Parents of Recovering Individuals: What to Expect During Drug
Parents want to see their children live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Addiction robs families of peace of mind and replaces hope with fear. During your child’s active addiction, parents may experience strong emotions such as anger, sadness, and even feelings of defeat.
When your loved one enters our addiction treatment center, it can feel like a weight lifted from your shoulders. However, this time can also bring many concerns to the surface.
During treatment, the primary therapist will contact family members weekly, to allow for a collaborative approach and to provide reassurance that your child is receiving the care they deserve. It can be challenging to draw the line between support and enabling, as well as to navigate the complex emotions associated with addiction and recovery. To address these concerns, as well as to help the whole family develop healthier and closer relationships, we offer family therapy as well as support from our family liaison.
Our family liaison is available to share both experience working in the healthcare arena, as well as her journey with parenting a recovering child to families interested in a parallel recovery support program.

Spouses of Recovering Individuals: What to Expect During Drug Rehab
Addiction invades relationships and replaces intimacy with distrust and anxiety. When your partner develops a dependence on drugs and alcohol, you may shift between feeling supportive and feeling angry- all these responses are natural. It can be challenging to identify the best way to support your partner while still taking care of yourself. Developing healthy boundaries and allowing yourself to experience the emotions that come alongside this experience is an essential part of healing. You may be unsure of whether you are ready to repair the relationship or if you wish to take some space.
Through our family program, our licensed clinical staff offers to support throughout the process of your partner’s recovery from addiction, and your recovery from its consequences.
In addition to weekly calls from your partner’s therapist, if you and your partner desire, we offer family sessions with a focus on relationship therapy. Repairing distrust, learning to co-parent and co-habitat effectively, rekindling intimacy, setting boundaries, and managing the daily challenges of a partnership are all possible in recovery. We are excited to invite you on this journey and to support you in fulfilling your goals while your partner recovers.
