Case Management for Addiction Recovery

Therapy is a huge part of recovery from addiction. Dealing with trauma, grief, tough emotions, and family issues are best done with an experienced therapist. However, after treatment, case management specialists help recovering addicts transition back to sober living. At Lighthouse Recovery Institute, we believe offering case management for addiction recovery can make a significant difference in someone’s recovery journey.

Who are Case Managers?

Case managers are professionals who help people successfully navigate the “day to day” part of recovery. They assist patients with employment and education, life skills, coordinating appointments, and addressing the complex issues of legal problems. For many patients, these services are the key to long-term success.

Benefits of Case Management for Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery

Addiction can make life unmanageable. Some of the critical problems caused by substance use receive attention from case management services. For example, many addicts and alcoholics struggle with finding and maintaining a job. Additionally, others have trouble coordinating appointments for medical and psychiatric care, which is essential for recovery.

Countless addicts and alcoholics have legal issues. Also, many need help getting social services (like food donations or reduced bus fare) to help them get on their feet. One of the reasons that case management is so essential for addicts is that it can address the problems caused by addiction and the difficulties many patients deal with in early recovery.

Failing to address these problems can set someone up to fail. For example, if someone can stay sober, but can’t support themselves or resolve legal issues, they have a higher risk of relapse. Because of this, case management is critical to success.

What Do Care Managers Help With?

It’s important to note that case managers don’t assist with any addiction treatment or therapy services. These are different professionals that help recovering addicts have the tools they need to maintain long-term sobriety.

Some of the services care managers help with include:

  • Communicating with courts to help patients get representation, find diversion programs, tend to legal fees, and navigate the system.
  • Helping patients find and apply for social services, like food stamps and childcare.
  • Developing life and job skills, like scheduling, interview skills, and assertive communication.
  • Helping patients manage appointments for medical concerns.
  • Connecting patients with community services.
  • Coordinating discharge plans to prepare for a successful transition.

These are just a few of the services case managers offer. If you’ve ever been hospitalized for any reason, odds are after treatment, a case manager contacted you. They probably asked questions about your insurance, explained the insurance benefits, and so forth. The concept of addiction recovery case management is similar.

One of the significant benefits of case management for addicts and alcoholics is that they are individualized to each person. Whether someone needs help transferring colleges or finding childcare so they can start work, case managers can help.

Where Can I Find a Case Manager for Addiction Recovery?

At Lighthouse Recovery Institute, we recognize the importance of drug rehabilitation treatment that addresses all of someone’s needs. That’s why we also offer case management to our patients. As a result, each patient has the opportunity to receive help with finding a job, learning to balance a schedule, addressing legal issues, or any other concern they might have.

Our case management services are even available on a long-term basis. To help patients have the best chance at success, we also work with patients on an ongoing basis throughout their addiction treatment, discharge, and aftercare.
