The Day-to-Day of Drug and Alcohol Rehab
Once you have completed detox, you will start therapy both in a group setting and individually to address all the various issues surrounding addiction. Different kinds of therapy help to ensure you get a healthy, well-rounded approach to sobriety. Here’s a breakdown:
- Group Therapy consists of different group settings that explore addiction and help you learn about yourself. Daily, you will have group discussions in which each person is invited to share about a certain topic, or their addiction in general. These are called process groups. There are also a variety of other groups like art class, writing class, and light exercise like yoga.
- Individual Therapy is where you get to speak to your therapist one-on-one to get deeper into the issues that are most prominent in relation to your addiction. These usually happen once or twice per week.
- You may participate in activities like yoga, games, and light exercise if you are medically cleared to do so.
Therapy certainly takes up the majority of each day in drug and alcohol rehab. You will also have down time to be with your peers, and, of course, your meals.
